PRESS RELEASE

MALAWI FLOODS: A CALL TO ACTION FOR THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                           16/03/2023

Transform Africa Now (TAN) is urgently calling for action for the international community to support Malawi in the aftermath of devastating floods that have affected thousands of people across the country.

The flooding, caused by heavy rains, has claimed hundreds of lives, displaced thousands and caused significant destruction to infrastructure.

It is trite to note that the people of Malawi are facing an unimagined crisis, and immediate and coordinated action is needed to provide relief and support needed.

We trust in the unfailing support of the international community in providing emergency aid and assistance, including food, shelter, medical supplies, and clean water in times like this; the same must be done for Malawian people with the speed it deserves.

No matter how small, every contribution can make a difference in the lives of those affected by the floods.

It is highly imperative to act now to prevent the situation from escalating further.

The repercussions of the flood and not aiding the country and victims is dire, hence the international community must act quickly to provide support.

We call on governments, Aid Organizations, and individuals to contribute to the relief effort and help Malawi recover from this disaster.  We, therefore, add our voices to urge countries to enact and implement policies that stem the causes of climate change out of Africa.

Climate change is real and we must be deliberate in our approach as a continent to curtailing its excesses.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Malawi during this difficult time, and we stand in solidarity with them as they recover from this tragedy.

Signed

Executive Secretary.

Transform Africa Now Network.
